The House of Kamiar Rokni’s Collection at PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week 2010 Karachi

Day 2’s finale was headlined by the The House of Kamiar Rokni’s womenswear Prêt-à-porter Spring/Summer 2011 collection entitled “Folkistan”. Inspired by Pakistan’s various folk crafts and cultural influences, “Folkistan” painted a portrait of women all over Pakistan, celebrating rural motifs and crafts with a contemporary twist. The fabrics used were all local with traditional checks and stripes in cotton, khaadi and sussi and were embellished in thread work inspired by folk appliqués of regional materials. Long dresses were accompanied by shift dresses and a diversity of pants inspired by cargo and harem pants. Talking about their label the designer duo said “We at Kamiar Rokni have always been inspired by our own traditions, folk culture and this theme seems more relevant now than ever before.”

The House of Kamiar Rokni by designer duo Kamiar Rokni and Tia Noon has received an overwhelming response from a trusted clientele with the team now designing for clients in places as diverse as Italy, Holland, USA, England, France, Canada, UAE and Greece to name just a few. The luxury label’s Prêt-à-porter and Haute Couture collections hit the runways in Karachi and Lahore, Pakistan last year to critical acclaim. In 2008, the label had the much coveted honour of having been nominated for Pakistan’s biggest style awards, the Lux Style Awards in the Best Prêt Wear category. The fashion house was also nominated as Best Couture Designer and Best Prêt-à-porter designer at the Lux Style Awards in 2009 and 2010 respectively. In March 2010, the House of Kamiar Rokni showcased their Autumn/Winter collection at Paris Fashion Week and showcased both Prêt-à-porter and Haute Couture collections entitled ‘East, West, North, South’ at the debut PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week in February, a collection that was simultaneously elegant, timeless and relevant all at once. The major inspirations for the collection lay with an exposure to the world in which we live and the myriad hues it has to offer from all four corners of the globe.
