Hats are not what you think anymore. Hats can make all the difference in an outfit. It was the first time in half a century that hats were fashion headliners on the runways. Most designers, from Prada and Dolce & Gabbana to Jil Sander and Michael Kors, topped models with everything from flowerpot and raffia hats to leopard and zebra prints.

Global warming must be good for millinery because covering up your precious scalp and shielding your face was on the mind of many designers for this years trends.There are tons of different options when it comes to hats, and we’ve seen everything from furry Cossack hats to turbans on the runways in recent trends. The music scene has also been influencing hat trends.

If you feel you don’t want to purchase a new hat for the season just wear your classic fedora hat, a cap or a kerchief – all those which have been with us for a while. The Trilby is the fashionable hat style. Panama hat is new n this seasons trends. It looks great but you should wear it with chic as if you are wearing an elegant wide-brimmed hat. Military hats first gained popularity with hipsters a few years ago. Now, they’re fairly main stream and are perhaps the most popular of all the hat styles. Cadet Caps are wildly popular and are worn on both coasts and continue to be one of the most popular hats from the women’s fall hat trend for 2009 and these hats are available in a variety of colors and textures.

Styles are now also showing some of that 60s flavor. Mod is popular once again, along with graphic prints…all appearing in accessories such as scarves, shoes, jewelry and hats.

Hats are the must-have item for 2009, much like women’s gladiator sandals were in 2008.
