While the nautical trend was huge for last summer, the trend this summer 2013 is all about big wide stripes, many celebs have navigated toward the black and white hue. From vertical, zig-zags, and abstract zebra prints, consistency is the key when wearing exaggerated striped patterns. Black and white stripes have been incorporated into designs covering the likes of apparel, shoes, accessories and even handbags making it ever so easy to dote over while giving you more of a selection to add to your wardrobe.
Though it’s true that wearing stripes has always been a bit of a body type caveat, there is still a way to wear the look that can not only accentuate your look but also keep you on the style track. Some of designers from our very own fashion world have been seen sporting the look in their own respective styles, from striped shirts to palazzo, the look is being seen everywhere and if done correctly, is a definite head turner.
Aleena & Fareena:
Always anchor a stripe piece around a solid or neutral piece, you should explore head to toe stripes, definitely stay away from chunky knits and thick cotton fabrics,” as these materials can add lot of volume to a springtime look.
Sehyr Anis:
When paired with the right pieces, stripes can really enhance your figure and keep you looking up-to-date. On the runways this season, designers were mixing wide and thin stripes or pairing stripes with florals; such match-ups generally don’t work for day-to-day looks. The key to wearing stripes in the real world is to always wear just one print matched with a solid. For example, a vertically striped shirt looks great with white trousers or Palazzo. Vertically striped pants can make you look taller and in style when worn with a solid-colored tee. For dresses, avoid horizontal stripes that widen your shape — unless you have a boyish figure and need to create some curves
Teena by Hina:
The hazard wearing stripes is when they’re horizontal, and can give the illusion of adding a few pounds onto your shape,” That doesn’t mean you can’t wear them, the stripes are off limits for fuller-figured fashionistas. “The best way to avoid this is to wear diagonal or vertical stripes, unless you are very thin, it’s also advisable to people to steer clear of horizontal-striped shirts in soft fabrics.
Nida Ali:
Stripes are indeed tricky and require a little fashion ingenuity, but stripes, both horizontal and vertical, can look great of fuller figures. The trick to stripes lies in their size. Plus-sizes look good wearing thin horizontal stripes save thicker stripes for vertical designs. The old adage is true that thick, horizontal stripes do make a full figure look wider. However, if the lines are small and thin, that effect is diminished greatly.
Monica:
Vertical and diagonal stripes can be bigger — but even here, do not go too big. Go with small to medium stripes and try to infuse color into the outfit to avoid a drab, lifeless look.
