It’s important to exercise but the motivation to exercise is hard to get. People who exercise are as busy as people who don’t.; the difference is that some way, somehow, they make themselves exercise.
Let’s face it: You can always find an excuse for why you don’t like exercise or why exercise is not right for you. But when it comes right down to it, there is absolutely no acceptable excuse not to fit some daily exercise into your life.
The more you avoid exercise, the more negative repercussions you face. And in the shorter term, you’re likely to gain weight. Plus, you’re going to get flabby, feel less energetic, and become weaker.
There is no one perfect approach; you may need to have make-yourself-exercise tactics to pull out when its exercise time. Here are some ideas:
Give it 10 minutes. If you can simply lace up your sneakers and get out the door, that’s 90 percent of the motivation battle.
Repeat the reasons why you want to exercise out like a mantra. Visualize what it is you want and how you will feel; let that vision be your motivation out the door, or onto an exercise machine.
Find an activity you like for exercise or a way to enjoy exercise you don’t. Gym machines are far from your only option for exercise. Group fitness classes are designed for motivation. Gym exercise might not even be your scene. Check out parks for group sports. Or check out dance and/or martial arts studios.
