Launch of Manish Malhotra The Regal Threads Collection

After celebrating a momentous 2015 marking 10 Years of his eponymous label, Manish Malhotra celebrated yet another milestone with a new collection – ‘THE REGAL THREADS’. An ode to ‘Make in India’, THE REGAL THREADS is the first collection of 2016 from Manish Malhotra and saw the use of Indian heritage weaves for the very first time by the couturier. The collection was showcased over a gala event hosted by the Sahachari Foundation at The Trident Nariman Point, Mumbai.

The design-story of THE REGAL THREADS has been inspired by Manish’s consummate passion for reviving Indian craftsmanship. Manish’s journey with Kashmiri craft has been well-known. From starting work with 50 Kashmiri artisans four years ago, this effort now employs over 200 artisans. In this spirit of inclusion and India pride, this year, the label has continued the effort of giving back with craftsmen of Benaras and Gujarat. Every yard of fabric used in THE REGAL THREADS has been personally curated by Manish andspecially sourced from local weavers and crafts clusters in Varanasi and across Gujarat.

THE REGAL THREADS charts a new direction for a label with the use of handcrafted fabric – including Benarasi silk, fine cottons, decadent brocades and Bandhini. Following the label’s endeavour to translate the craftsmen’s works of beauty to evening-wear for the modern Indian woman, THE REGAL THREADS showcased elegant saris in bold checks, voluminous lehengas and feminine blouses with mirror-work, high-waisted skirts and flowy kalidars. The vibrant colour palette ranged from bright pink and orange to lime green and deep blue, signifying the many moods of a strong, confident woman.

Speaking about his new collection Manish Malhotra says, "The new year brings with it a new, exciting chapter for my label. This is the first time I have worked with Benarasi weaves and the creative process of putting together the collection has been immensely gratifying. The Regal Threads is my tribute to our weavers and craftsmen who have upheld centuries-old crafts traditions. It is a celebration of couture heritage, colours and the glamour of India in our style."

Manish Malhotra feels glad to introduce his The Regal Threads Collection in Mumbai.
