Gayatri Rangachari-Shah, to celebrate the launch of Raw Mango’s ‘Midnight’ collection of botanically inspired saris and garments.
The evening saw a nip in the air, plates of beautiful food and the hearty laughter of guests, under a starry sky. The courtyard of Raw Mango’s flagship store in Colaba, Mumbai, witnessed a warm sit-down dinner, co-hosted by the label’s designer, Sanjay Garg along with textile enthusiasts, Kiran Rao and Gayatri Rangachari-Shah, to celebrate the launch of Raw Mango’s ‘Midnight’ collection of botanically inspired saris and garments.
The décor of the evening seemed to transport guests deep into a forest shrouded by the night – flowers of the dark adorning the courtyard, the dramatic mood was revealed through the details. Dozens of flickering candles created a magical ambience which further enhanced the theme of the night, which included delectable dishes like blue cheese kachoris with tamarind caviar, kokum hibiscus jelly with edible flowers and a dark chocolate mousse with pista tuille, amongst others.
Among those who attended the intimate affair included, Anupama Chopra, Sanjana Kapoor, Lisa Ray, Mini Mathur, Priyanka Bose, Prerna Malhotra, Tasneem Mehta, Anushka Manchanda, Cecilia Morelli-Parikh, Divya Thakur, Beenu Bawa, Prarthana Singh, Hema Shroff-Patel, Shireen Gandhy, Vasu Gandhi, Greg Foster, Nimish Shah, Preeta Sukhtankar, Aditi Kothari and Suchi Kothari.
Speaking on the new collection of saris, Sanjay Garg said, “Our perspectives are most often made during daylight, but half our lives are spent otherwise – during a time reserved for rejuvenation and strength. The ‘Midnight’ collection takes inspiration from the flowers that bloom after the sun sets, and the nocturnal creatures that awaken after dusk. Hand-painted botanical motifs have been digitally transferred onto sheer silks, in sultry purples, blues and charcoals. The designs are reminiscent of miniature paintings, where the finer, elaborate details create a dramatic mood, only revealed in the absence of light.”
