Mira Sethi is a Pakistani actress, model, and writer. The daughter of journalists Najam Sethi and Jugnu Mohsin, she attended Lahore Grammar School and Cheltenham Ladies’ College then graduated from Wellesley College in 2010; she spent her junior year abroad at Oxford University.

I was seventeen when I first went up to my mother and said I wanted to wear a sari. She said, “Okay, what colour would you like?” I said, “black!” And so I got a plain black satin sari with a plain black blouse (of my own imaginative choosing ?). And I looked like a slit, and a witch. I wore it once, and then, mysteriously, the sari disappeared. I forgot about its existence for a whole decade. I recently rediscovered it hanging on a scratched plastic hanger in my cupboard, and now I wear it ALL THE TIME because it’s SO LIGHT and EASY TO CARRY. I hate having to worry—and plan in advance—about what I’m going to wear to interviews and public appearances, to think about the “right” kind of outfit for the “right” kind of platform. But let me tell ya: repeating outfits is so liberating and fun and emotionally freeing. Men do it all the time. We should too. ???
