How is it that one remembers anything? Well a few key tips for a healthy memory will ease that burden out for you. Following are simple and easy eight ways for you to remember… well, basically anything.
1. INTEREST
If you are not interested in what you are learning or reading or even trying to remember, then a few hours down the day you are most likely to forget whatever it is you were focusing your mind on. How does one remember song lyrics? Movie dialogues? Recipes? Simple, you remember those that interest you. So the first key to remembering whatever it is your mind is currently boggled by is to develop a certain amount of key interest in it.
2. IMAGES
It is a proven fact that things that you see, you are most likely to remember as compared to things that you have read. The human mind is a peculiar yet amazing thing; it remembers images far more vividly than it remembers words and letters. Associating a visual representation to whatever idea or person or concept you are trying to grasp will always help you establish an understanding. Do not just throw things or meet people, or watch things just for the sake of doing what you are doing, take a moment to pause and take it all in, what is a second if it is spent well in remembering something? Take a close look to the new acquaintance you met, pause and look carefully where you are keeping your car keys.
3. MEMORY TREE
Create it! This falls right back down in the visual and images category. If you create a mental tree or a mind map of what you have to do or what you are trying to remember then with a certain push of the brain, a mental tree or a mind map will pop right in your mind to help you remember. The mind often moves like they do in the movies and if you utilize it to create something, with just a little focus it is most likely to recreate it all. Instead of remembering excessive details that you know you will forget, remember in bullets, points, chunks or diagrams, a mind is smart that way.
4. CONNECTIONS
Draw a connection between what you are trying to know and what you already know. This way every time you remember what you already know a footnote of your new learning pops open. How does an English literature professor remember quotes? Because his classroom and the things he teaches remind him of what he learned long ago.
5. POST-ITS
Make points of what you are trying to remember and plaster those places, on your wardrobe door, the corner of your dresser, your bathroom door and places. This way every time you open your wardrobe, go to the loo or look in the mirror you subconsciously read what it is you are trying to remember and whether you are trying or not that word sticks in your memory for good.
6. RECREATE
The best way to remember something is to not try too hard to learn it word by word. Recreate what you have read in a manner your mind understands best. Be it a song, in the form of a comic story, a tragedy or whatever. Adapt the monotony of what you read with the creativity of your mind.
7. ALERT
Study or read when you know your mind is most alert, for some it may be right after the break of dawn, for some it may be during their afternoon tea and for some it may even be after midnight. Utilize the time that you know your mind is awake the most for your benefit.
8. SLEEP WELL
Sleep can do wonders for your memory. Sleep well and healthily to retain what you know.
