Mahgul for Nasreen Shaikh will be debuting with a capsule collection as part of PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week’s Emerging/New Talent category in April 2013. Titled ‘The Archive Collection’, the designer has found inspiration in old photographs from the Civil and Military Gazette to create pieces that attempt to re-invent a traditional aesthetic sensibility in a more modern context.
Based in fabrics such as Stretch Denim, Cotton, Satin and Organza, expect structured and darted silhouettes with touches of cut and thread work in a monochromatic colour palette with hints of blue. The collection channels the ethos of ready to wear as separates replete with high waisted shalwars, organza tops, summer jackets et al. A complete version of The Archive Collection will be ready for retail as of June 10 2013 at leading stockists in Pakistan priced between PKR 7000 – PKR 30’000.
Speaking about the launch of the new brand, Nasreen Shaikh has said: “I belong to a generation of fashion designers that have always been more low-key and deliberately less mainstream. Yet ready-to-wear is a burgeoning industry in Pakistan and our clients have been pushing us for our brand to become more accessible, affordable and relatable to a wider number of people. For me, who better to do that than my granddaughter, a young and accomplished fine artist in her own right who has trained with me for several years, who represents a fresh and new generation of talent in our industry. I am excited for the launch of Mahgul for Nasreen Shaikh and hope it is received well.”
“I have been fortunate enough to have been exposed to fashion since an early age, having been brought up in my grandmother’s workshops. While studying art at Central St Martins in England, I also took diverse pattern cutting courses, which I think sowed the seeds for my desire to one day do my own fashion line.
This year, we decided it was take time to make the Nasreen Shaikh label more widely available and with this eponymous line, I look forward to bringing my interpretation of her signature design ethos, to the mainstream. I am proud to be launching a capsule collection at the prestigious PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week platform as it has launched a number of exciting upcoming designers and gives newer brands and talent a chance to showcase alongside more mainstream labels on an equal footing.” said Mahgul Rashid.
The Archive Collection by Mahgul for Nasreen Shaikh will be debuting at PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week on April 29th 2013.
