A team of US based doctors visited FMH College of Medicine and Dentistry for a week long visit from 15thto 19th April, 2013. The team comprised of Consultants from Pediatric Medicine, Pediatric Surgery, Family Medicine and Internal Medicine. The visit was intended as an expertise exchange andlecturing tour as well as a goodwill gesture to the People of Pakistan.
The group of Doctors included Dr. Mir Shujaat Ali (Pediatrics), Dr. Raheela Sadiq (WoundcareSpecialist), Dr. Saleem Islam (Pediatric Surgeon) and Dr. Anwar Khokar (Internist and Hospitalist). The group had a well laid out agenda from the start which included a busy schedule. Activities included lecturing students of FMH College of Medicine and Dentistry, providing patient care in the wards according to their specialty, charting treatment plans and providing free medical supplies. The group also visited community sites in the per-urban areas of Lahore such as the Nainsukh Cluster and provided free consultation and medicine.
In addition Free Wound and Foot care as well as Pediatric Camps were arranged for the local community at the FMH Shadman Campus and thousands visited these camps. Speaking on the occasion Dr. Raheela said: “We chose FMH as our site because we felt that it is a well reputed organization with a proud history of providing quality medical to the poor regardless of their ability to pay. We found the faculty, consultants, equipment and departmental expertise here to be first rate as well.”
In response Hospital Director Prof. Dr. Arif Nawaz thanked the team for choosing FMH as their site Hospital and reiteratedthe fact that choosing FMH also serves as aliving testimony of the long way FMH has come in terms of recognition and leadership in the health sector from a national to an international brand. Chairperson Central Executive Committee Mrs. Shahima Rehman, present on the occasion, also thanked the US team for their meritorious contribution and instructed them to make their visit a regular feature every year.
