International Women’s Day is celebrated across the globe on March 8. This day was started as a socialist political party on 28 February 1909 by United States. The objective of celebrating international women’s day ranges from love and appreciation towards women to the celebration and appreciation for women’s economic, political and social achievements.
Every year this international women’s day comes with a new highlighting point. The main focus of international women’s day 2013 is to eliminate gender discrimination and promotion of gender equality. The international women’s day 2013 has declared this year’s theme as the gender agenda: gaining momentum. This year the theme of United Nation for International women’s day is a promise. “A promise is a promise: Time for action to end violence against women”.
International women’s day is also celebrated every year in Pakistan with great enthusiasm. Different conferences and seminars are conducted throughout the country on international women’s day 2013. Women’s rights include all those rights which a women needs to live respectably in a society. This day is celebrated in Pakistan to eliminate gender discrimination and provide equal rights to women like men. In Pakistan domestic violence is common and women are continuously becoming the victim of violence and rape. To overcome these social evils, this day is celebrated with great fervor.
Pakistan is Muslim country and being a Muslim everyone knows that women have the equal rights as men have. But it’s a myth that female’s role is only associated with chaddar and char-dewari. She just has to manage and hold responsibilities like a house wife. The working woman who is out of her house for some work is seen surprisingly by others.

Women are not just doing outstanding job now but are also standing shoulder to shoulder with men. But in some fields of life there is still discrimination among men and women in Pakistan. The rights of women are suppressed in some places as compared to men. That’s why this year; the theme of international women’s day is equality between men and women.
The celebration of this day in Pakistan ranges from small random informal gatherings to large highly organized events. Different messages and slogans are publicized for the promotion of women rights. The faces of women are also seen in various promotions such as pamphlet, posters, booklets and postcards etc. Women are invited to different conferences and meetings in different areas of country. These celebrations of this day start as the month of March begins.
Different institutions, charity departments, organizations, corporations and media celebrate this day. They make different meetings to highlight the women’s right and roles in the developments of nation. Speeches are made on the empowerment of women financially, socially and politically.
Woman is the most beautiful creation of God Almighty and she must be given her rights as she deserves. Not one day is specific for women all days should be like international women’s day.
