Youm-e-Ashura is the 10th Day of Muharram. Since it has been a very important day in the history of Muslims, therefore remembrance of the day has always been of great importance to the Muslim world. This is not just a Youm-e-Ashura but it refers to number of events in the past took place on the same day. The latest of all is the Martyrdom of Hazrat Hussain (R.A).
Events occurred on Youm-e-Ashura:
As stated by many scholars, the Youm-e-Ashura is of significant importance in the history of Islam. Besides the tragic event of Karbala, some following events also have taken place on the Youm-e-Ashura:
- Earth and Skies were created on this day. • Adam and Eve (A.S) were created on Youm-e-Ashura.
- Youm-e-Ashura witnessed the awarding of “Khaleelullah” status to Hazrat Ibrahim. • Hazrat Sulaiman (A.S) received his kingdoms on this day.
- Hazrat Eesaa (A.S) was raised to sky on Youm-e-Ashura
- Youm-e-Ashura brought forgiveness to Hazrat Dawood (A.S) once in history.
Holy Considerations of Youm-e-Ashura:
Youm-e-Ashura is of great importance in the history of Muslim world. This day has also been given a religious importance by the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) by recommending certain activities to be considered as the important. Let us discuss the Holy considerations of Youm-e-Ahusra:
1. Namaz (Prayer):
Nafil Namaz (Prayer which is not obligatory but recommended) is strongly recommended by the Prophet on the Youm-e-Ashura and has assured that the rewards would be very high in the hereafter.
2. Fasting:
Another ritual that is of vital importance on the Youm-e-Ashura is fasting. In fact, the fasting has been such of importance that the people are used to take care of it like that of Ramadan. Youm-e-Ashura is the day on which the fasting has been strongly recommended by the Prophet with valuable rewards in both this world and hereafter.
3. Visiting sick persons and graveyard:
It is also a beauty of Youm-e-Ashura that it reminds us of those beloved who have passed away from this world. Furthermore, visiting a person who is sick is highly appreciable both by reglion and by common practice on the Youm-e-Ashura.
4. Cooking and distribute food:
Youm-e-Ashura is the day when a person is feeling very sorrow and pain of others. So, Youm-e-Ashura is the day when a better food is cooked and everyone try to distribute his food among those who need it. Youm-e-Ashura is the day when everyone tries to do something for others and for other’s good.
5. Remembrance of Hazrat Hussain (R.A):
Youm-e-Ashura is the day when Hazrat Hussain (R.A) received his martyrdom in the war of Karbala (Modern Iraq). Since that war was against tyranny and Hazrat Hussain played his role in the best manner to protect the cause and sanctity of Islam, therefore Muslims from all the sects are joined their hands and try to remember those days. They feel proud by revisiting the history of Youm-e-Ashura and try to learn themselves the lessons of truth, honesty, bravery and sacrifice for the just cause.
