The festival season is arriving again with all its bloom, as Muslims all over the world are all set to celebrate the Eid-ul-Azha. This is the one of the two Eids of Muslims which is celebrated on 10th of Zill-Hijj of the Islamic Calendar. Eid-ul-Azha is a total four-day Islamic festival. This Eid holds great importance among the Muslims’ circle as it is celebrated to commemorate the willingness of Hazrat Ibrahim to follow Allah’s command to sacrifice his son Hazrat Ismaeel.
On the festive day of Eid-ul-Azha, Muslims all over the world perform Qurbani, which is actually the sacrifice of animals. After making sacrifices on Eid day, Muslims distribute its meat amongst family and the needy. While the elders are focused on selecting the best animal for sacrifice, children have special interest in Eid-ul-Azha. This Eid brings joy and excitement in children, as they thoroughly enjoy Eid-ul-Azha by decorating their animals with plastic jewelry and other decorative stuff. The markets before Eid-ul-Azha are loaded with all kinds of animals’ food and decorative stuff.
Eid-ul-Azha is marked as a public holiday in Pakistan and all the Muslim countries. All the government offices, businesses and markets are closed for 3 days so that people can enjoy these days with their family without getting overburdened due to work.
If you want to enjoy the true spirit of Eid-ul-Azha, it is important that you should have a basic know-how about the Sunnah to be performed on Eid day. It is important in Sunnah to wake up early in the morning and to clean teeth properly with a miswaak. It is recommended to take bath as per Sunnah and to put the best and new clothes on Eid Day. Before going to Eid prayer, one should use Ittar (permissible perfume) for fragrance. The person who is performing Qurbani on Eid ul Azha should not eat anything before the Eid prayer. It is recommended in Sunnah to recite the Takbir of Tashreeq in a loud voice while going to Eid prayer.
While the male members of the family are busy on Eid-ul-Azha in slaughtering animals and making portions of meat to distribute among family and friends, ladies spend their Eid mostly in kitchen. On Eid-ul-Azha special bar-be-que parties are arranged to have a get-together with family. Also, people invite each other on dinners and lunches to celebrate the happiness of Eid-ul-Azha. In Pakistan, Eid-ul-Azha is also considered as a festival of foods. Different types of dishes of meat are specially prepared to share the love and happiness of Eid-ul-Azha. However, while enjoying Eid-ul-Azha, one should not forget our Muslim brothers.
