Model Humaima Malick first rose to fame when she walked the runway at the tender age of 14 for Deepak Perwani. Recently she has been making waves as an up and coming actress with Shoib Mansoor’s 2011 hit Bol. She is now set to make her mark in Bollywood with the action-thriller Sher starring opposite Sunjay Dutt.
The film which has been shot in Jaipur, Gujarat and Rajasthan has been directed by Soham Shah of Kaal. The film with also feature talent like Vivek Oberoi and Paresh Rawal. In the film Humaima Malick plays the role of the Sunjay Dutt character’s wife, which is narrated through a series of flashback sequences after her husband’s death.
Regarding her first ever opportunity to star in an Indian film, Humaima says, “I feel I’m crossing the border with a role that echoes my earlier film. Like my character in Bol, here too, my character revolts against patriarchy. I am not just the male protagonist’s wife.” With the success of Bol, Malick has not only made her presence felt in the film industry, she has also won many laurels for her award-winning performance.
The young model-turned-actor who has played contrasting roles in the famous television dramas such as “Barish kay Ansoo” and “Tanveer Fatima”, admits it was always her dream to make it to the big screen. “I always wanted to do movies.” In an interesting twist of fate, Humaima Malick plays the same role as Shabana Azmi’s national award winning role in Vinay Shukla’s Godmother. Godmother, which was released in 1999, was inspired by the life of Santokben Jadeja, a gangster’s wife.
Sher is set for release at the end of this year, and is an eagerly anticipated film for audience both in India and Pakistan.
