Kite flying matches used to be held with people dancing on the beat of Dhol. At the end of the festive the biggest kite flying competition used to be held with people flying huge kites sometimes as huge as 6 feet or more. But due to the ignorance of some people who used the banned strings, the Government of Pakistan banned kite flying on the whole.
Though the Kite Flying is banned but still the people of Lahore have not lost hope. Lahoris still celebrate Jashn-e-Baharan with the same excitement. At the start of the spring, Jashn-e-Baharan festivals are organized in parks which include various activities like Bhangra on the beat of Dhol, fountain shows, concerts, magic shows for children etc. A wide variety of the traditional food of Pakistan is also sold in the festivities of Jashn-e-Baharan. Several family bonding games are also played on the event.
Stalls selling bangles and other jewelry are set up. Girls of different ages buy colorful bangles and wear them to celebrate Jashn-e-Baharan. Girls wear white suits with chunri dupattas or yellow basanti suits and look beautifully elegant. Boys wear the traditional Shalwar Kameez mostly in yellow and white with khussas on Jashn-e-Baharan.
This year the celebrations of Jashn-e-Baharan are on its peak too with schools, colleges and universities organizing Jashn-e-Baharan. Several other events open to general public will also be held this year mainly in Lahore, Kasur and many other cities.
