Every year on 6th September, Defense day is being celebrated in Pakistan recollecting the memories of heroic accomplishment of Pakistan Army and Pakistan Air force in the Indo-Pak war of 1965. Do these memories actually leave any long lasting impact on you? Have these ever been successful in persuading you to do something practically for your country? Have you ever considered why are we becoming insensitive towards our country?
In 1965, on 6th September, Indian army’s invasion in Lahore marked the beginning of a war that reaffirmed unity and spirit of Islam in Pakistani nation. The Pakistan Army units protecting on the ground was supported by the Pakistan Air Force in the 1965 war. In order to be successful in a war, it is very important for the forces to be sure of national unity and support from the government. As a result of the Indo-Pak 1965 war, Pakistan emerged as a more strong and confident nation which was proud of its armed forces.
1965 war was absolutely a miracle of Pakistan Army and Pakistan Air force. I believe there are always some reasons behind miracles. At that time, every Pakistani’s major concern was the defense of Pakistan. Pakistan was the preference. Every citizen of the country was firmly united behind the military government of Field Marshal Ayub Khan. National priorities were crystal clear. There was no Sindhi, Punjabi, Balochi or Pathan like today. They affirmed their identities as Pakistani.
Till date, our elders who witnessed 1965 war show such enthusiasm and spirit about 6th September which we, as the young generation and future of Pakistan lack. We have fallen deep into our differences and individual priorities. How many of us work hard in order to pay back to our country which provides us with our needs. We always complain about every little thing and cover up our negligence as a Pakistani. We never ask ourselves what have we done for our country but blame Pakistan that what has it done for us.
The reason of celebrating 6th September as the Defense Day of Pakistan is not only to pay respect to those who lost their lives while fighting for Pakistan and to recall their valor and determination or rejoice at Pakistan’s victory. The real essence of our Defense day is losing by the time. Every year, 6th September should serve as a reminder of national unity and patriotism that was shown by common people. Being a Pakistani, it should remind us of our duties towards the country who gave us identity. It should remind us of our loyalties that we owe to Pakistan. Let this Defense day 6th September, 2011 help us revive our promises that all of us must have committed at some highly patriotic point in our lives. Lets stand united as Pakistani.
Let’s make Pakistan our preference leaving all the individual priorities behind our backs and rise higher. Live Long Pakistan.
